ASSIGNMENT 3

This art work was drawn by Mr Au Yeung in 1993. This artwork was in the painting exhibition for protecting Tai O away from the modern development. It is about the view in Tai O. Mr Au Yeung used the watercolor to create this painting. The color in the painting is not impressive as the western watercolor painting. The style is near the Chinese ink washing painting. Although it is about the view in Tai O, it should be the realism painting. As the detail of the object is not so clear, it may also be impressionism.

In this painting, we can find the style of the painting of Mr Au Yeung is different from the traditional paint style. It may be the own style of Mr Au Yeung. As Mr Au Yeung learned the western painting including oil painting and watercolor painting. Later on he studied the Chinese ink washing painting. He had developed his own style of painting.

  4. Hi Chun Wai,

This art work shows the beauty of Tai O and I really like it. But what is the name of it? It has been 20 years since he painted this art work. Do you think that Tai O is being protected successfully?

I think you can give more details regarding this artwork in your final paper. For instance, you can talk more about the techniques of this painting. I am not quite sure but I guess Mr. Au Yeung adopted "wet-in-wet" technique in his painting which shows a feeling of softness.

  6. Dear Chun Wai,

Although you make an argument that this work is contemporary because of it's theme and unconventional color use in Chinese ink painting, I think you need more material to support your point. Specifically how is it different from traditional styles? What are typical themes in traditional ink painting? Where they never political? How does this painting help change the social problem? What kind of effect does it have to our society today?
